Physician-guided blood-based aging assessments.
Chronological age is how many years you have lived. Biological-age models attempt to estimate aspects of aging or health risk using measurable features of the body. At My Concierge MD, David Nazarian, MD, provides blood-based biological-age assessment through specialty laboratory testing, including testing arranged through Centelab, as part of an individualized longevity evaluation.
What Is Biological Age?
Biological age is not one directly measurable number. Different tests may use clinical blood biomarkers, DNA methylation patterns, or other algorithms and may give different results for the same person. The exact markers, calculation method, reference population, repeatability and validation of a specific test are important when interpreting its score.
What Do Blood-Based Aging Tests Measure?
Depending on the specialty laboratory and assay, an estimate may draw on measures related to metabolic function, inflammation, kidney or liver function, blood counts or other physiological domains. Some aging tests instead analyze molecular patterns such as DNA methylation. We review the actual panel used for each patient rather than assuming all biological-age tests measure the same processes.
Why Consider Biological Age Testing?
For patients interested in longevity medicine, a biological-age assessment can offer an additional perspective on long-term health and provide a structured discussion of modifiable risk factors. It is best considered alongside established measures such as blood pressure, lipids including ApoB when appropriate, glucose and HbA1c, physical fitness, body composition, sleep and medical history.
Can Recommendations Change Your Biological Age?
Exercise, smoking cessation, adequate sleep, healthy diet, blood pressure control and management of cardiometabolic disease have demonstrated health benefits. Some interventions may also change certain biological-age scores, but a lower score does not by itself prove slower aging or longer lifespan. We prioritize clinically meaningful changes, not simply optimizing a proprietary score.
Our Testing Process
- Baseline consultation: identify medical conditions, risk factors, goals and current treatments.
- Blood draw: collect the required specimen and send it to the appropriate specialty laboratory.
- Physician interpretation: review the reported result, test limitations and related clinical biomarkers.
- Personalized plan: address evidence-based cardiovascular, metabolic, exercise, nutrition and sleep priorities.
- Follow-up: consider repeat testing when useful and comparable, without substituting a score for established clinical monitoring.
Biological Age vs. Telomere Length Testing
Telomere length and biological-age assays assess different characteristics. Telomere length is one marker of cellular biology and is not a validated stand-alone measurement of whole-body biological age. Read about our Telomere Testing service.
The Future of Aging Biomarkers
Researchers are studying DNA methylation clocks, proteomic and metabolomic measures, immune-aging signatures, organ-specific aging estimates and how these may relate to future health outcomes. Additional validation is needed before these models can reliably dictate medical treatments or predict an individual’s lifespan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a biological-age test predict how long I will live?
No. A biological-age estimate is not an individual lifespan prediction.
Does biological-age testing replace an executive physical?
No. It supplements, rather than replaces, guideline-based prevention and diagnostic evaluation.
How often should it be repeated?
There is no universal evidence-based repeat interval. We consider the testing method, clinical goals, measurement variability and whether follow-up is likely to change care.
